Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC)

Before the formation of the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission(HPPSC), the working of the Public Service Commission with respect to civil services and posts related to the affairs of Himachal Pradesh was done by Union Public Service Commission under Article 315 of the Constitution of India.

The building of the commission is located at Nigam Vihar, Shimla (H.P) – 171 002.

Methods of Recruitment

The direct recruitment of various Class I and Class II posts of different departments is done by the commission through the following methods:

  1. Examination and Viva-voce

       The services for which such mode is preferred are:-

• Himachal Pradesh Administrative Services (HPAS)
• Himachal Pradesh Judicial Services (HPJS)
• State Forest Services (HFS)
• Forest Rangers

  2. Examination only

       The examinations conducted through this method are:-

• State Accounts Services (O.B.) – (S.A.S.) – OB
• State Accounts Services (L.A.D.) – S.A.S. – L.A.D.

  3. Screening Test and Interview

       This method is followed for selecting candidates for the following types of posts:-

• Medical Officer (General Wing)
• Medical Officer (Dental)
• College Cadre Lecturers
• Asstt. Engineers (Civil/ Electrical/ Mechanical) of different departments/ Boards
• Asstt. District Attorney (A.D.A.)
• District Public Relation Officer/ Asstt. Public Relation Officer (D.P.R.O./A.P.R.O.)
• Any other post(s)

  4. Interview only

       Posts for which this method is adopted are:-

• Asstt. Professors of different faculty in Medical / Dental Colleges
• Director Sainik welfare
• Deputy Director Sainik welfare
• Commandant Home Guard
• Any other post(s)
